Saludos on this Blue Moon evening: time of transformation, winnowing the harvest, riding the wave ....bendiciones...blessings...blessings....

Friends of the Red Book, our group must have been truly inspired by watching Cronenberg: In our last sessions we embodied Jung's writing by reading the dialogues aloud--hmmm maybe a new playreaders of a sort for San Miguel de Allende? I am beginning to imagine sets...costumes...wow....
We read the encounter with Elijah and his blind daughter Salome; I won't spoil the plot, there is a big surprise!

And now, our upcoming wonderful guest artist/teacher Ina Armstrong will be presenting an introduction to Soul Collage (registered trademark but I don't know how to make the little "R" circle thingy)...Ina has great experience teaching; This creative all-day workshop will take place in San Miguel de Allende on Friday September 14th at Windows to the Soul Art Studios....check out her webpage for delicious info about Soul Collage...

Ina's home page has great enticing photos with a short video by the Seena Frost, creator of SoulCollage, who I had the privilege of seeing at an Art Therapy Conference in 2001. SoulCollage is a process for accessing your intuition through creating your own "deck of soul cards"....Join us in San Miguel! contact me for registration, pricing, directions to the studio; and you can contact Ina with any questions about the process, method, and history of this wonderful modality...
here is Ina's bio info; I am honored to have her visit the studio again from West Virginia; Bienvenida Ina!

"A Dangerous Method"
Playing this Friday August 17th in San Miguel ! Who's up for a discussion of this film and Jung's work?  Jung began his Red Book work right after the time of crisis depicted in this movie. How can we use art to help us through these "dark nights of the soul"? is one of the many questions we will explore:

A Dangerous Method trailer

Whether or not you are a fan of Cronenberg's work, this is an interesting and controversial view of Jung and Freud and their friendship which ended with such bitterness. Perhaps see you there?  I'm planning to attend the 3 pm function at
Cinema Schedule August 13 to August 19

Showing at 3:00, 5:30 and 8:00

Dir: David Cronenberg    Starring: Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Viggo Mortensen
A fascinating investigation of the relationship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, the birth of psychoanalysis. The famous case of the hysteric Sabina Spielrein leads to the development of a great rift between the two men, a divergence that continues to define many aspects of psychoanalytic thought today. A provocative work of historical fiction, with a remarkable performance from Kiera Knightley.

 Red Book

bring a blank book or journal
 all other materials provided,
plus nice tea and a botanita! Cost $300 pesos
at Windows to the Soul Art Studios.

Friday August 24th: Theme "Befriending"; how do we befriend image/dream/our souls? How does "friendship" show up in the Red Book? Touching on the deep friendship between Jung and Freud and its subsequent crash (no pun intended for Cronenberg there!), we will also dive into befriending our art, our journals, our words.  We will touch on Cronenberg's film but it is not necessary to have seen it to join the conversation!

Friday August 31st: "Making Art in Times of Crisis"; how can visual and tactile activity help us to express, survive, and integrate intense psychological material? This was one of Jung's main premises for his own art-making and the reason he exhorted his patients to do the same: "Make Art!" was his imperative. What is the implication for culture--can making art help the world?

Discussions initiated by Rebecca with a presentation of work from Jung's "Liber Novus, The New Book", known as "The Red Book", as well as material from his autobiography "Memories, Dreams, Reflections" and other Jungian and post-Jungian work, in particular that of James Hillman. Join this ongoing rich and deep conversation and art-making! call Rebecca for reservations, directions to studio, or further questions. 154-7010 local, 505-205-1316 from USA; or email mexrebe@yahoo.com.

Jung's Red Book & the Art of the Visual Journal: new series set to begin!

Wednesdays June 13, 20, 27, & July 4, 10am - 1:30 pm
new material! new aspects of the never-ending-story of the unconscious....

Summer is approaching, and we have a beautiful feminine Venus energy doing magical things in our sky; as her transit across Sun is observed over the world, many cultures see this as a liminal moment of transition into a more connected consciousness.
Study of CG Jung's Liber Novus, (he called it "New Book") or, as we know it today, THE RED BOOK, will help open our own perspectives to new ways of beings with the world of nature, our dreams, our towns; our souls. What is within is without.
We will begin a new round of Art-Making in our Journals--"your own Red Book", as Jung prescribed his patients to create,
on WEDNESDAYS jUNE 13TH, jUNE 20TH, jUNE 27TH, AND JULY 4TH, 2012.  Morning coolness in the studio, 10 am - 1:30 pm, bring a visual journal with nice thick-ish paper for gluing and painting in, or a spiral sketchbook makes a nice surface.
All other materials provided, and refreshment.
In this series we will look at the concept of "place" in the Red Book; the "where's" of Jung's encounters with his imaginal guests; forest or desert, mountain, cave...library?
What are YOUR imaginal places? What is the "where" of your encounters with psyche, with your soul?  Let's go for a walk....
Cost is $25 USD per session (or peso equivalent)or great discount for the month, $75 US for four sessions paid in advance; that's 4 for 3!
Call Rebecca to reserve your place: local # 154-7010, Vonage (USA#) 505 205 1316, email mexrebe@yahoo.com

Fall 2011 Visual Journaling with CG Jung's Red Book & Exploration with the Mandala

The Autumnal Equinox came in on a breeze; now in late September the days are warm and the nights crisp.  We will delve in with a Fall Workshop:  Visual Journaling with CG Jung's Red Book led by Rebecca, and Exploration with the Mandala led by guest teacher Phil Roger.

Classes will be held for six Fridays, 2:30-5:30 pm, beginning September 30 and ending November 4th.  Participants can join all classes for a rich experience (and a discount in price!), or may attend one or two or several as their schedules and travels permit. All materials are provided except your personal journal; spiral-or-nicely-bound journals or sketchbooks of good quality unlined paper are recommended. The studio has a nice supply of markers, colored pencils, calligraphy pens, stamps, glues, collage materials, glitter! --okay there's more but I'll stop there.

Rebecca (that's me) has been studying Jung's work in more depth and will add new material to the previous Visual Journaling workshops; in particular has been inspired by a Teleseminar series with renowned Jungian analyst Dr. Michael Conforti.  Looking forward to collage-ing anew, painting in the book, and free-writing.  Maybe we will practice some calligraphy, which Dr. Jung so expertly used in his own journal!

http://www.assisiconferences.com/

Phil Roger will join the series as Guest Teacher, bringing his 30-year study of the Mandala (his Master's Thesis was on Manala imagery) as well as his centering Kadampa Buddhist practice.  Mandala work will spark a creative dialogue with the unconscious, refinding balance, and Self-as-Center.  Phil just completed a 4' mandala assemblage and as an artist is a continual practitioner of this art form.

September 30th and October 7th will be Introduction to the Red Book and Mandala Themes in the Red Book, respectively; beginning either a new journal or a new section in a previously worked journal.  Rebecca will lead these classes, augmenting the Red Book imagery and writing with background from Jung's autobiography, Memories, Dreams, Reflections.  The main focus will be on each student using art materials to find their own dialogue with the inner selves, a very personalized Red Book of Your Own.

On October 14th and 21st, Guest Teacher and Artist Phil Roger will be teaching Exploration with the Mandala--a combination of journal work and larger paper works; it will be about some history and background of the Mandala (one of Jung's themes as well) as well as lots of hands-on work. The microcosmic orbit, offering to the universe, sacred geometry, and learning to make the Yin-Yang or Taijitu symbol, will be part of this two-week block.

Then on October 28th and November 4th, Rebecca will wrap up the workshop series with some other themes in the Red Book including the Wise Inner Guide --who Jung encountered as the dream figure Philemon-- and the Desert Journey; where do we find the richness of soul, in our own personal landscape.  Whereas Jung encountered many imaginal figures in a rocky desert scene, you might find your setting for an Inner Journey to Soul as the sea, or mountain, jungle, or even cityscape!  Participants discover their personal connection to Psyche or soul;  Jung was like a pioneer, but we each have our own path to follow, which is this life,

Class costs are $200 pesos Mexicanos per session (includes all materials except personal journal) or $1000 pesos for all six sessions.  Such a deal!

Write for reservations and directions to the studio:  mexrebe@yahoo.com, call 154 7010 in San Miguel, or Vonage (US) # 505 205 1316.

Generally the class structure is about a 20 min talk with presentations of the Red Book material (the book is GORGEOUS, it will blow your mind!), about 1 1/2 hours of art-making time, and then about 20 min or so for group sharing if people so choose (like show and tell).
I am really loving this material! So rich, deep, soulful. Allows space for our joys and insecurities--for it all.
I have been taking a teleseminar on the Red Book with a wonderful Jungian analyst, so my knowledge is expanding every week, and I look forward to sharing new insights since I began teaching this workshop last fall. ---saludos!  Rebecca
(and Molly)
