Dream the dream onward into your art/journal pages

In-person Make Your Own DreamZine workshops coming up in Santa Fe, NM, fourth Sundays:

I’ve added an additional workshop July 20th (as the July 27th group has filled! 😊 ) 1pm-4pm . Next up after that will be August 24th same time… Contact me for registration or more information.

What is a DreamZine, you might ask…. I see it as a kind of graphic novel for our psyche, not exactly a depiction of the dream images (though it can be that) but a bit like dreaming the dream onward into the pages of our visual journals. A way of seeding new images that can sprout into new forms. Summer rain has really prompted plant growth in my yard, those bright green shades of “weeds” popping up, some of which are beneficial to the birds, and others that create stickers in my dog’s paws… Psyche can be like that.... nourishing and, well, sometimes sticker-y.

So my journal pages evolve between text and image, a kind of free-form play, returning to dream images (sometimes just a flash) and back into the collage/paint/threading. I’ve been stitching string and thread into my accordion journal along with the water soluble wax pastels… I’ve been really enjoying this art medium…

Here’s to creativity as a form of resilience during these most difficult times.

The dream provides a seed for creating collage/painting/doodling in your visual art journal; a

dreamzine for your soul to read back to you, a kind of graphic magazine of the psyche.

Here’s to creativity as a form of resilience during these most difficult times. We will be exploring landscape/ land memories as a way of remembering the environments of dreams—a place to walk into, breathe and and feel into the sensate qualities of dream as environment. What art making might unfold from this contemplation? Let’s explore together!

Next DreamZine workshop May 25th

Make Your Own DreamZines workshops continue this Spring!

with Rebecca Peterson Windows to the Soul Art Studios

Even though Lilac Season is here again (such Beauty and Aroma!) I am feeling a little stressed out in these trying times... How about you? Creating art, both in community and at my little art table in my casita with my doggies, provides respite for my mind and soul. I love using my dreams as kinds of seeds in my visual art "DreamZine" journal. The images seem to sprout on the pages, taking their own innate forms as the artwork unfolds. Lately I've been adding stitching and thread to the paper across the accordion folds. Needle and threads are both loose and ask a kind of precision as well. Threading a needle is a whole other metaphor!

Next in-person workshop will be held Sunday May 25th, 1pm-4pm, in Santa Fe. $48 includes all materials: accordion journal, art materials (collage, paints, glues) beverages and light snacks. Location in a quiet and pleasant private art studio, accessible with easy parking, .

Contact me for more information or to reserve your spot! Small group, spaces limited. mexrebe @yahoo com or (+1) 505 204 9476.

Next DreamZines workshop will be on June 22nd (4th Sundays, save the date!)

Individual dreamwork available virtually with Rebecca, a certified Embodied Imagination® Practioner, using an original post-Jungian approach to dreams. More info in bio.

Below are some pages in my own DreamZine that I worked on from my bed after I had an unfortunate fall and fractured leg which led to cancellation of classes in February and March. Now, fortunately I am better, healing and back walking and carrying bins of art supplies! Nothing like setting up a little art and writing place on a breakfast tray during the healing process.
The theme of these new pages was about palimpsest: a manuscript or papyrus which has been written on more than once, with the earlier writing incompletely scraped off or partially erased but partially legible. This reminded of dreams that are partly remembered, or fresh grief that arrives with old grief in tow. It was freeing to play with writing in colored pencil, the words becoming their own image.

Dreaming Toward Spring

DreamZines workshops 2025 in Santa Fe NM!
Sunday February 23rd (and again on March 30th), 1-4pm
We've just passed Imbolc, Candelaria, Groundhog's Day... February 2nd as the midpoint between Winter and Spring. We are tilting closer. Here in the northern hemisphere, the warmth of the Sun is tangible.
The dreaming psyche starts waking up along with the soil. Maybe you notice your dreaming closer to the surface. Maybe the dreams are bringing a sense of urgency in wanting to be noticed. We are in highly fraught times to be sure. Let's gather together and make art and talk about our dreams!
1pm-4pm in a lovely Santa Fe art studio. Directions sent at time of registration. Bring a dream and your creative self. Accordion journals and art materials provided. Also some nice tea and snacks.
Email to reserve your place; group size is kept small for gentle intimate and confidential sharing. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I am also available for individual Embodied Imagination dream and memory work.  ~ Rebecca
